Trying something new

Wow, it has sure been a minute and a half since I belonged to a journaling site. Just clicking around on DW and finding friends, learning how to subscribe, reading comment threads - all of it puts me right back into that 2005 LJ community feel. It's such a different world to the fast pace of Twitter and I don't know if I'm ready to get used to that.

At this point I don't know what I'll end up saying here! It's not conducive to posting every fleeting thought that comes into my head, and I've never been one to write long posts. Maybe it will just sit empty after this post. But I have some goals to set for myself, and maybe this will be a good place to track those.

Now, here, in the beginning of November, I'm sitting with 16 dramas started but not finished, and 11 dramas that I had to take an extended break from. Honestly my MDL watchlist is a little overwhelming. I hope that by the end of 2022, I can knock some of those off the list!

I also have several cnovels that I have been reading literally for years, and I would like to get some of those finished so I can finally close those tabs on my phone.

Finally, I'm stepping outside of my comfort zone by expressing interest in new kpop groups. I've never really been drawn by music - it's the community feeling that brought me into a music-based fandom in the first place - but for the first time in four years I'm finally starting to learn member names and personalities for groups outside of BTS (and, more recently, Stray Kids). I'm hoping by the end of the year, I can say with confidence that I am invested in other groups too.

I'm gonna start with those three goals and see what happens. Maybe following friends will bring me some of that much-needed motivation.

Chiming in to agree that it’s definitely okay to post short things! If it would help, there are some Dreamwidth themes that make it look more like Tumblr/microblogging.

Oh gosh, the idea of figuring out themes for DW is intimidating. I added a tumblr theme when I was active there ten years ago and now that I'm considering going back I absolutely hate it, but I'm overwhelmed trying to set up a new one. I think I'll have to go look up some DW-for-beginners posts and go from there!

Which drama are you currently watching? I can't focus long enough for an entire drama to keep my attention, so I keep jumping back and forth between them, lol.

Sorry about the late reply! There are a bunch of DW beginner posts (I think the kpop comm links a few in the pinned posts?) so I won't list them here since I don't want to be overwhelming. However, I do have a post about Dreamwidth layouts and stuff that I made a while back, so it might be helpful. I might especially recommmend this layout (unless you don't like the aesthetic, which is totally fair) since it really has a "micro-blogging" mood and so might feel more welcoming for that.

I'm sort of currently watching a Thai drama, Ghost Host, Ghost House, but admittedly I have not caught up with the last two episodes or so; I feel like this has been the fortnight of kpop community on Dreamwidth and fannish platform expansion and fantech stuff; and it's been a little overwhelming! I'm also guilty of sometimes watching dramas until almost the end and then quitting (even if I really liked the drama); so far this year I've done that for two dramas that I really enjoyed and still have on my favourites list (Triage and The Miracle of Teddy Bear) plus a bunch more, so I totally get the switching thing.

These links are really helpful, thank you! I've just glanced at them now and am excited to explore a little more in depth later. And yes, I definitely agree that the last two weeks have been overwhelming in many ways.

Ghost Host Ghost House looks fun and I was tempted to start it this weekend! But I felt I probably shouldn't start a new drama yet (I already started Between Us, but in my defence it's basically a continuation of a drama I finished a few months ago...) until I knock something off the list. I wonder what gets into our brains when we suddenly can't finish the last two episodes of something we'd been enjoying so far? I've run into that several times and it's a real trial to push through.

yes!! these are such good goals!! i also have been on a journey of new groups and also getting into groups without being super fannish about them, which is a new and fun thing! glad to see you here :))

I've never been able to have casual interest in things without being fannish about them, but I think it's time to try :) looking forward to (and manifesting) your many incoming reclists!
